It would be safe to say that Yvette Ray has found her niche. Since
kick-starting her career as a Publicist in 1992 by securing Canadian
independent label Mint Records as a client, she has forged many success
stories. Her artist roster reads like a dream list with some of the most
credible and viable artists making music today such as Neko Case, the New
Pornographers, the Donnas, the Weakerthans and Danko Jones, to name but a
few. In the years to come, Yvette would find her talent being sought after by
not only independent labels like Lookout! Sub Pop, Hopeless, and Scratch but
would also begin to add major labels and distributors to her client list.
It's Yvette's DIY attitude that inspired her through four years of Marketing
Management at Ryerson Polytechnic University, a seven year stint as a
producer and on-air host at campus/community radio station CKLN 88.1 and as
music buyer at the flag ship Sam The Record Man store in downtown Toronto.
Never losing sight of that DIY attitude is what drives Yvette to "dig in her
heels" and ensure there is no media stone unturned. Yvette's ability to
sucessfully promote artists albums, tours and special events with integrity
and exuberance has garnered her respect not only from her peers but also from
the almighty media itself.
Always, looking to take on new challenges Yvette has branched out into the
world of film, television and art; promoting the digital film "Low Self
Esteem Girl" at the Toronto International Film Festival and "The Travellers:
This Land is Your Land" at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival. Working for
aspiring or established artists to promote their new albums or promoting
gallery shows or spreading the word about a new talent in film, music or tv
is not just a job for Yvette, it's a pleasure
